Orthodontics: Straighten Your Smile, Improve Your Health

Straightening teeth is rarely only about appearance. Crowded or overlapping teeth are harder to clean properly, which makes decay and gum problems more likely over time. An uneven bite can wear teeth down unevenly or strain the jaw.

That said, most people come to us because they don’t like how their teeth look, and that’s a perfectly good reason on its own.

We treat adults, teenagers and children, using clear aligners or fixed braces depending on what needs to move and how far.

Our Orthodontic Treatment Options:

  • Invisalign Clear Aligners: A series of custom-made removable trays, each worn for a week or two before moving to the next. They’re taken out to eat and to clean your teeth, and they’re difficult to notice in normal conversation. They work best when worn about 22 hours a day, so they suit people who can stick to that. Most adult cases take between six and eighteen months, depending on how much movement is needed.

  • Fixed Braces: Brackets bonded to the teeth and connected by a wire. They handle more complex movement than aligners can, and because they’re fixed, the treatment doesn’t depend on you remembering to wear them. Modern brackets are noticeably smaller than they used to be. They’re commonly used for children and teenagers, but they suit adults too.

The right option depends on what needs correcting. We’ll tell you honestly if aligners aren’t the right answer for your case.

What Your Orthodontic Treatment Involves

  • Consultation: We examine your teeth and bite, take photographs and a 3D scan, and talk through what’s bothering you. You’ll get a written treatment plan with costs and an estimated timeframe.
  • Planning: Dr Daniel Chia plans your treatment. Planning covers how the teeth will move, in what order, and how long it should take.
  • Fitting: Around 45 minutes to fit your brace or issue your first aligners, with time to go through how to look after them.
  • Reviews: Every six to eight weeks. We run evening and Saturday appointments, and we’ll work around school half-terms where we can.
  • Retainers: Teeth drift back if nothing holds them in place. We provide both a fixed and a removable retainer at the end of treatment, and you’ll need to keep wearing the removable one long term. That part isn’t optional, and we’d rather you knew before you start.

Orthodontics Without Changing Dentist

Orthodontic treatment means coming in every 6 to 8 weeks for a year or more. That’s a lot of appointments, and where you go for them matters more than it does for a check-up twice a year.

Plenty of our orthodontic patients are registered with a dentist elsewhere and come to us purely for treatment. If you work nearby, that’s usually the practical choice. We’re a few minutes from Chalk Farm station and on the Northern line, which makes pre-work or lunchtime appointments straightforward.

You don’t have to move practices, and we won’t ask you to. Your dentist will continue your check-ups and any other treatment, and we’ll keep them informed of your progress.
