We believe in creating a welcoming environment where your child can build the foundation for a lifetime of happy, healthy smiles.

From their very first check-up through gentle cleanings, preventive care, and positive reinforcement, we help build the foundation for a lifetime of excellent oral hygiene, giving you, the parent, complete peace of mind.

Why Early Dental Visits Matter

Bringing your child to the dentist from a young age is about much more than just checking for cavities. It allows us to:

  • Build Trust & Prevent Fear: Regular, gentle visits help your child become familiar and comfortable with the dental environment, preventing future anxiety.
  • Monitor Development: We can monitor jaw growth and the eruption of baby and adult teeth, spotting potential issues early.
  • Establish Healthy Habits: We partner with you to teach your child the best ways to brush and floss, turning a daily chore into a fun and effective routine.
  • Provide Preventative Care: Early intervention with treatments like fluoride applications and fissure sealants can protect your child’s teeth and prevent decay before it starts.

Your Child’s First Visit: A Positive Introduction

We recommend bringing your child for their first check-up when their first tooth appears, or by their first birthday. This initial visit is very gentle and relaxed. It’s mostly about getting acquainted! We might:

  • Give them a fun “ride” in the dental chair.
  • Count their teeth together.
  • Show them some of our interesting tools (like “Mr Thirsty,” the saliva ejector).
  • Gently examine their teeth and gums.
  • Discuss their diet, teething, and at-home cleaning routine with you.

Our Children’s Dentistry Services

We offer a complete range of services to care for your child’s smile as they grow:

  • Child-Friendly Check-ups: Regular examinations to monitor their health and development.
  • Fissure Sealants: A quick, painless, and highly effective treatment. We paint a thin, protective plastic coating onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars) to seal out the food and bacteria that cause cavities.
  • Fluoride Applications: A professional fluoride varnish provides teeth with extra strength, making them more resistant to decay.
  • Gentle Fillings: If your child does develop a cavity, we use modern, tooth-coloured materials and a gentle approach to restore their tooth quickly and comfortably.
  • Oral Hygiene & Diet Advice: We provide practical advice for parents on everything from brushing techniques and toothpaste choices to healthy, tooth-friendly snacks.
  • Orthodontic Assessment: We monitor how your child’s teeth and jaw are developing, and we’ll tell you if and when orthodontic treatment is likely to be worthwhile. Some issues are better addressed early, while others are best left until more adult teeth have come through. Orthodontic assessments are carried out in-house by Dr Daniel Chia, who holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Orthodontics.

Children’s Dentistry FAQs

The ideal time is around their first birthday or when their first baby tooth emerges. An early start helps normalise the experience and allows us to provide important preventative advice right from the beginning.

Keep it positive! Talk about the dentist in a friendly way. You can read them a children’s book about visiting the dentist or “play dentist” at home by counting their teeth. Avoid using words like “pain,” “hurt,” or “scary,” as this can create unnecessary anxiety.

While they are more commonly placed on permanent adult molars, sealants can be recommended for baby teeth if the child is at a high risk of developing cavities. These baby teeth are important for holding space for the adult teeth to come in correctly.
Please let us know when you book the appointment. Our team is experienced in helping anxious children feel at ease. We use a “tell-show-do” technique, explaining everything in simple terms and demonstrating it first. We work at your child’s pace and never rush them.
Just like for adults, we recommend a routine check-up every six months. This allows us to closely monitor their oral health, apply preventative treatments, and reinforce good habits as they grow.
